Universal testing unit for steam turbines opens at Kirovsky Zavod

In May 2017, the only universal testing unit in Russia for steam turbines of up to 75 MW was unveiled at Kirovsky Zavod.

Modernization of the unit began in 2013 at a manufacturing facility belonging to Zavod Kirov-Energomash (a subsidiary of Kirovsky Zavod). More than RUB 1.3 billion has been invested in the project. The unit is designed to test steam-turbine plants of various construction types and power, which are found in nuclear icebreakers and other surface and underwater marine vessels. The steam-turbine plant for the Arktika Project 22220 nuclear icebreaker will be the first to be tested at the new unit.
