Kirovsky Zavod ships main turbine generator for icebreaker Ural

21.05.2020
On 19 May, the Kirov Energomash Plant (part of the Kirovsky Zavod group) shipped the main starboard-side turbine generator for the Ural (the second Project 22220 universal nuclear icebreaker) to the Baltic Shipyard.

The 36 MW unit is a two-cylinder turbine and generator mounted on support structures, with steam and oil lines, steam valves, and service platforms.
The equipment, weighing a total of 245 metric tons, was shipped from the Kirovsky Zavod dock using a crane vessel. Shipping the main turbine generator in fully assembled form makes subsequent installation of the equipment on the icebreaker much faster.

In 2017–2019, Kirov Energomash shipped all the steam turbine units for the Arktika and Sibir nuclear-powered ships to the client. The plant also manufactured TNA-10 turbocharging units for the anti-icing devices of the three nuclear-powered ships. Preparations are currently underway to test the main port-side turbine generator for the Ural and to manufacture turbine units for the third and fourth Project 22220 serial icebreakers from 18 September 2019, in line with the contract.
